Week 02 Day 08 Hakuins Butter Egg - SV
In this meditation session Terry Hodgkinson shares the wisdom of seventeenth century Zen master Hakuin Ekaku, commonly referred to simply as Hakuin. It is said that this very meditation was used to revive Hakuin himself. During a period of intense Zen practice, he neglected the health and harmony of his body and became quite sick. He sought out his teacher and spiritual master named Hakuyu who was a hermit. Hakuyu the hermit was primarily Taoist and he taught Hakuin the Butter Egg Visualization Meditation so that he could bring his body back into balance and heal. It wasn’t long after this that Hakuin had a true experience of enlightenment and later would become known as the most elevated Zen master in Japan. In this meditation Terry guides you through the meditation that Hakuin himself practiced from his Taoist teacher. |
